From Imagination to Reality: Exploring Architecture with Elementary Students

At Prism Design Lab, we believe that every child has the potential to be a designer, problem-solver, and creative thinker. This belief came to life through our Exploring Architecture workshops at Lakewood Elementary, Murray-Massenburg Elementary, and Glenn Elementary Schools.

Throughout the program, students were introduced to the fundamentals of architecture and design through hands-on activities that encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. They explored how architects use imagination and problem-solving to shape the spaces where we live, learn, and play.

One of the most rewarding moments of the workshops was watching students see their ideas come to life. From initial LEGO ideation to completed models achieved with the use of AI tools, each project reflected the unique perspectives and creativity of its creator.

The excitement on students' faces during the final reveals was so amazing. This is what happens when young people are given the tools and opportunities to create.

Beyond learning about architecture, students developed important skills in teamwork, communication, and design thinking. They were encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, and imagine new possibilities for the built environment around them.
