4th and 5th graders at Lakewood and Glenn Elementary Schools took part in Exploring Architecture, a hands-on workshop that brought their design ideas to life, supported by the Durham Public School Foundation’s Innovation Grant.

The workshop began with an interactive presentation from a local architect, followed by students working in teams to build imaginative structures using Legos. They described their creations in detail—location, purpose, style, and materials—painting a clear picture of how their buildings would exist in the real world. The Prism team took those ideas, along with photos of their creations, and brought them to life through AI-generated images.

The workshop offered an engaging and impactful experience, showing students how creativity and design can influence the world around them. For many, it was a first glimpse into the possibilities of architecture and what their ideas could become.
