We were thrilled to join NCNOMA and Diversify Architecture for a special What is Architecture? event at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s University City Regional branch. Together, we welcomed children and families into a space where stories, design, and community came together to spark imagination and build understanding.

Local designers read aloud from several children’s books that celebrated creativity, space, and community. After the readings, young people jumped into creating - building with LEGOs and wooden blocks on maps of real cities.

The event became a bridge between imaginative storytelling and real-world design, offering young learners a chance to see themselves reflected in creative professions that shape our built environment.

We’re grateful to NCNOMA for leading this joyful and thoughtful day of engagement, and to the library for opening its doors to future architects, planners, and storytellers. Events like this remind us how powerful representation and storytelling can be. When youth see professionals who look like them and hear stories that reflect their lives, it expands their sense of what’s possible.
