Starting with Workshop 3, we moved our series to the Durham Main Library in a partnership with their Maker + STEAM Services, and to take advantage of the many resources available to young people.
Having articulated the program for the Third Place and assigned approximate square footages, we asked a local planner to assist us in identifying sites in Durham that could accommodate our project. Aspen Romeyn, of Self Help Ventures Fund, presented us five sites based on our criteria of a central location, proximity to public transit and appropriate interior and exterior square footage. Aspen also led a great discussion with students on the
role of planners in shaping our built environment and the impact they have on our community.
By the end of the workshop, the students identified their top three choices for sites to locate their Third Place.
